Action, rather than Reacting
All would agree, the saying: "if the dog bites you, do not bite the dog back". In fact, this is easier to said than practiced, especially if we get a barrage of insults that is not necessarily true statement. However, whether self-defense reaction will benefit us? A friend who also had a lot of pressure, difficulty and competition, appear strong because it always holds the principle that all the criticism, pressures and constraints they experienced was 'a chance to get ahead'. He commented: "Avoid 'demoralizing', do not let ourselves hurt and discouraged mentality". Yes, it is we who determine whether we view the situation with a sour or remain neutral, any heavy pressure. From this friend, I also learned that certain things should be done is to recognize and resist the reaction which occurs when the pressure comes. We need to try to digest and to hold, before giving a negative mental responses. Hurt, offended, and the will to defend ourselves that appeared normal, and we recognize our need to maintain a positive mental approach.
We would have to prove that our impulsive reactions would likely bring the situation worse. Many people do not believe that by selecting the action and reaction that we spend with a positive screen, we might have to maneuver to achieve our goals. Instead of saying, "I'm sick, so can not exercise," we are actually better to say that we want to take a break. Instead of complaining about "My job is boring", we had better say that we're evaluating things that are important in our work and if ever need the added value in other places, we can say it's time to find another job. Instead of complaining: "My political opponent of cheating.", Would it be better to tell the public as well as to convince myself that I would 'play with integrity' in this political battle? In Aikido martial arts sport people learn to follow the movements of the opponent and eventually win situation. From here, we can learn that the efforts and success of holding the reaction, adjust tempo, find the positive in every situation is individual victories in his life.
Be a Better Person
In a seminar, in which the panel discussion was more pessimistic and will scare even the difficulty of facing the challenges of competition, a panelist who comes from China, recalling the importance of a positive view of this phenomenon, as in the writings of the Chinese, the word "crisis" as well as having two meaning as well, namely: "danger" and "opportunity" So really, the criticism from superiors, complaints from customers, but was thwarted by competitors is a condition which is not bad, but at the same time we can use to make ourselves better.
When we "attacked" or "abused" by others, but we successfully brought the self to the positive side, at least we can feel 2 'victory'. First, we will "feel good about Ourselves". Sense of relief and confidence will arise, and this is very healthy life. The second victory was an increase in our self-image in the public eye. We'll be seen as people who are optimistic and open to trouble. What if the criticism is true and open up our weaknesses? We would still be positive by insisting that "nobody's perfect". We must at times make mistakes. It is sometimes hard to make us accept the criticism is because we often confuse it with personal attacks. It would be more effective if we see that the error in the action, decision or solution that does not make us take ourselves to be "low". As long as we really intend to become a better self, we should see what we can learn from the mistakes we did. It's certainly things we have to prove in the action. Fix erroneous actions can we do this without complaint, even grateful that someone had warned.
