Overwhelmed Data, Lack Of Knowledge

Monday, March 18, 2013

Now data is plentiful and much easier to obtain than in the past. With the help of Internet technology, we can navigate to the places that used to be unthinkable we enter. In fact, once, we were knocking on the door did not know what.

Now the data might say 'overwhelmed'-therefore, there is a call today era' big data '. Even so, many companies and institutions still collecting customer data as well as prospective customers. Overtly or covertly (like the middle of fuss). Directly or through other people's hands.

Companies want to know how people behaved in certain matters. For example, how many times a consumer using credit cards to shop online. Security agencies may want to know what the issues are much noticed by the public.

Data is abundant. You see then, my friend said, what would be done to the data? Stockpiled just to meet the company's servers?

The issue is more important than collecting data is to understand the data. It's not unlike finding a mosaic pattern of the data, getting a pearl in the middle of pile of data. Now, recognizing the pattern of the data collected require separate skills. Skills needed more than just read the stats.

Therefore, the analytics profession scientist mentioned would more shine. It is they who help decision makers to understand and interpret the data. Those who fill the deficit insight (insight) in the surplus data.

In addition to the pattern, which is also crucial is the ability to understand the context. Data are not yet independent. Data is a reflection of the situation, circumstances, environment. Linking patterns in the context of development would assist the formulation of action that needs to be done. Without context, the reading of the data can be misleading. How many people speak of data, but out of context.

Sorting data, recognize patterns, and understand the context is a crucial issue in the midst of a growing pile of data. The decision-makers may be aided by a variety of software to recognize patterns of data accumulation. But, interpret and understand the context with a different type of skill that must be honed.

Behind the pattern of data and context. Without understanding the last two terms, the data 'do not read'. My friend reminded me: "Getting the abundant information may be nice, but if you do not understand what it means, all the data is useless."
